What Linda needs

I discovered a fun meme at MySpace and thought I'd try it here. Google your name and the word "needs" in quotes ("Linda needs") and see what you get. List the first 7 entries in the comment section below. The quote marks are important...

Honestly, I didn't know what a mess I was until I did this. ;)

I also tried the meme with my pseudonym Lyndi and got more varied and interesting results.

Lyndi needs
1. to be reported to 1-800-BISHOP for swearing on the court (yeah, that Lyndi is a potty mouth, lol)
2. Lyndi needs one (a warm hat) to keep those long ears warm. (apparently Lyndi is also a dog's name)
3. Lyndi needs to turn 14 or gain 344 more Vampire points (whatever)
4. Lyndi needs to wear her ankle braces AT ALL TIMES! (wrist brace, actually)
5. What Lyndi needs now. Looking for a supportive networking group that specializes in online marketing (now, that I could use!)
6. Lyndi needs to go to Costco to pick up a bunch of photos
7. Lyndi needs to get it out of garage! (???)

These are the first 7 but number 9 is the best: lyndi needs god damn time. (I said she was a potty mouth.) But who doesn't need more time. Twenty-four hours in the day just don't seem like enough anymore.

My Town Monday Meme: Anaheim

Travis Erwin suggested this My Town Monday meme, so I'm giving it a whirl today.

HOMETOWN: Anaheim, California

POPULATION -- 345,556 as of 2007. Anaheim is the 10th largest city in California and the 54th largest in the United States.

YOU SHOULD THINK OF MY TOWN WHEN ... you think of Disneyland. We're the only town in Orange County with our very own (fake) mountain. The park dominates the town in more ways than one.

ONE MUST SEE IF YOU VISIT -- Disney's California Adventure. There are other Magic Kingdom's around the world, but only one California Adventure.

ONE PLACE YOU SHOULD AVOID -- any filling station near the Disneyland Resort. Drive a few miles away into a residential area and you'll find cheaper gasoline.

FAMOUS RESIDENT -- Mickey Mouse who now lives in Toon Town. In the slightly-less-famous-but-real category, actor Milo Ventimiglia (Peter Petrelli on Heroes) was born in Anahim.



RENOWNED ATHLETE -- pitcher Nolan Ryan of the Anaheim Angels, among other team players. Ryan threw four of seven no-hitters while he was with the Angels in the 1970's.

I couldn't think of anything in the "WITHOUT MY TOWN, THE WORLD WOULD NOT HAVE" category, so I'm substituting:

BIGGEST DISASTER... The Palm Lane Fire of 1982.

The fire started when high winds from a Santa Ana condition downed electrical lines. The flames spread, spread by the dry winds, and destroyed an entire block of apartment houses plus some other homes. Most of them had wood shake roofs which were banned afterwards because of their flammability. The fire started early in the day, just a few blocks from the home I now share with my husband. At the time, he lived there with his brother. Neither of them went to work that day. They stayed home, hosing the roof with water and watching the smoke. The fire got to within a block or two of our house before it was put out. We now have a class A roof instead of the wood shake.

I LIVE IN MY TOWN BECAUSE ... my husband already lived here when we married.

I MIGHT LEAVE ON DAY BECAUSE ... the neighborhood is changing and not for the better.

I've Been Tagged by fellow blogger,Deborah Dale for a meme. (In case you're wondering, Wikipedia defines a meme as "any unit of cultural information, such as a practice or idea, that gets transmitted verbally or by repeated action from one mind to another". In this case, a blog template that gets passed from blogger to blogger.

So, here are six random things you may not know about me:

1. I like beer better than wine - practically heresy for a Californian! (I like to joke that I'm not half-German and half-Irish for nothing.)

2. While on a college trip to Mexico, many years ago, a friend and I climbed to the top of the Caracol at Chichen Itza. (pictured here) I'd forgotten how many steps there were just to get to the dome. We climbed up a little wooden ladder and crawled through the dome to the top. The view from up there was great, but I'll bet they don't let tourists do that any more.

3. On a trip to Australia, a friend took me on a camping tour of Tasmania, complete with a mad flight from a bush fire. Such adventures in my youth.

4. I love to dance. In high school I took lessons in Scottish dancing. I wasn't good enough to compete, but it was fun. After college, I joined other folk dancing groups and learned to love Greek and Balkan line dances. It was good, clean fun and great exercise.

5. I've decided that life without chocolate isn't worth living.

6. I'm extremely near-sighted and got my first pair of glasses in fourth grade.
